2019's weird valentine by Cesar U. Vidal-Rosas

This is a story i have written as far back as 2019. Unfortunately certain entries have been removed by Facebook themselves. A few recovery attempts will be made In the meantime Enjoy

Day 1: my tire exploded with a pattern on top on my way to buy me kiss tickets, a whole hour of sliding until i reached a tire shop luckily no one was harmed and no patrols in sight.

Day 2: all north shore banks decide to close that day and all video tellers were forced to pick up the slack
Awaiting day three...

DAY 3 : feeling relieved, felt bored and was craving a bacon king, rushed at 9:30 in the morning, put up with slow internet afterwards. Got worked up for nothing, nice.

DAY 4: Wake up half an hour early thinking my ride to work was going to show up soon. I was tired for no reason, nothing special happened at work but instead of taking advantage of the high temperature i fell asleep in my chair rather than my bed. must make up for lost time

DAY 6: I was never a fan of this particular holiday, it always felt as if every marketing department makes it their mission to make singles fell like crap for exesting. Anyways i enjoyed leftover pizza thinking about what happened yesterday. Using my cloud has proven to be unreliable lately. As soon as i left work i rushed towards wallmart, my mother tagged along. It was supposed to be a grab'n'go. The only charge and sync cable was in pink, of all colors, the shelves in other areas were empty as well. I could swear i heard a faint laugh the moment i looked at the cable. Nevertheless the color wasn't that much of an issue as long as it worked. While i was in the cashier line my stomach growled so loud the person in front of me turned around to see, the line was moving slowly. Inside the wallmart was a subway, and bought myself a meatball marinara sub on garlic bread, as for my mother she wanted chicken teriyaki. I've eaten here many times, but i've never felt this isolated before, it's not like i was eating alone. Afterwards we headed for a little caesars nearby to get something for the rest back home. I thought it has a drive through so this ought to be quick. The window said closed, so i waited in line outside the store, it's always amazing to see how a small store can process lines when the last one i was in seem to take an eternity. I was so glad to smell the pizza the ice that poured as soon as o left the store didn't bother me.

DAY 7: pizza party at work

DAY 8: Damn, it's been a week and i haven't decided yet

DAY 9: This morning I decided check my wallet, I do so once in a while to ensure my spending habits don't get out of hand, also because I lose track of my receipts. As i browser through the few contents I find a Walmart gift card. I have no idea how long its been there or if there was anything in it, the back is yet to be scratched. If there's anything in it, I could have used it before, guess I now have something to do today.

DAY 10: After going to the store yesterday, i decide to move a few things around. I have a decently size television, only a bit outdated, so i though i'd give it an upgrade. I bought a converter box with a recorder, before i connected a ps3, a separate blue ray player (I know the redudancy but i have to open it up in order to swap disks, its old), and a vcr. I have modern tv, i just like the color from the old one and I'm always on a budget. While i was testing tbe recording feature, i decided to dust off an old box of tapes and watch some tapes i haven't gotten around to see yet to some some ive already watched. Long story short my room is still a mess, i said i'd move things not clear it. Perhaps i should stream what i watch.
DAY 11: Early in the morning I find out I am out of ham. It's nothing major, it's just that sandwiches can be made i about 5 minutes. I must have been very tired after the binge. My brother had to wake me up, usually it's the other way around. What would normally happen is we would still have half an hour to get ready to work before our ride arrives. I'm just glad I still had ten minutes to get ready. As soon as I returned from work, I drove to Aldi (I just prefer to carpool and nap before I work). Afterwards I was compelled to break the monotony of my day and went to the Mayfair mall. I walked around the wall inside until i passed by each store, then I got bored and decided to use one of those massage chair. I looked up and notice there was a Barnes and noble in front of me. I entered and quickly bought a vinyl, the sky was already dark. Drove home while enjoying the view, went to my room as soon as I could and was undecided what to watch next. Even though it was already late I figure there was time to watch just one movie. Minutes have passed while I pondered on my chair, I looked at my screen only to see that my own reflection was waving back at me. It was only for a few seconds but I was sure it waved at me. I must be more tired than I thought.

DAY 12: Damn, my back hurts, and I almost fell asleep during work. I'm running out of time, should i drink till i drop Wednesday or Thursday?

DAY 13: Damn, i forgot to ask a day off for the 14th

DAY 14: deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...deleted...

DAY 15: "WAKE UP." I fell of my bed after hearing that. I checked my and went back to bed, I don't work on Fridays. "WAKE UP," I jumped out of my bed this time. I'm hungry.

DAY 16: Just had bk breakfast again. Every time i go out, I miss my television, so many movies to watch, games to play. The days go by and human interaction seems less enticing because of it. I guess it's drive thrus from now on. "HOW PATHETIC."

DAY 17: "GO TO THE TECH AREA." I was already here, i might as well. The voice i've been hearing has been more active lately. I've gotten used to it, but I still haven't though of a name for it. "OVER THERE ON YOUR RIGHT," it said, "YOU'LL NEED ONE OF THOSE." The tripod was less than ten dollars, my last one was damaged and haven't used it for years. It must have been testing me, after i picked up the tripod it said, "NOW GRAB THAT THING UP AHEAD." I looked at it and continued past it. "HEY, GO BACK, YOU'LL NEED IT. HEY ANSWER ME." I whispered, "no, why would need a selfie stick." I looked around if the store was crowded. "IT'S NOT ABOUT SELFIES, IT'S ABOUT HAVING A EASY TO FIND SHUTTER BUTTON." I stopped, it has a point, I don't have an amazing camera, and i'd rather avoid nudging my phone if i'd have to resort to it. I went back, grabbed it, and proceeded to the cashier. "WAIT, PERHAPS A NEW EXTERNAL BATTERY WOULD BE BENEFICIAL."

DAY 18: I go back to work and now I really hate Mondays. The entire day was annoying. All the voice did was go on about how bored it is. I had to look through my pockets. I have an old mp3 player I carry with me, no matter where I go, spare battery too. During my years working for a staffing office and old man appeared to me asking me for help, he didn't know how to put songs in it. We've decided to meet the next day however the office sent me somewhere else to work (i just don't miss work). I kept the mp3, it's not like I could track him down. Anyway, I'm glad the work day ended.

DAY 19: Portable setup needs work. I can still stand out with this. Miss my old jacket, it gave me more space to work with. Good thing I can hide in plain sight. "PLUS YOU CAN NOW WATCH YOUTUBE MORE COMFORTABLY WHEREVER YOU ARE."

DAY 20: I left my guard down. I didn't think it would get worse. I go to work the day goes as it normally does. I am not as strong as others, so I'm get very tired after my 10 hour shift, sometimes I think back and often debate with myself if I did the right thing turning down the 12 hr, well im here now. The day is nearly done, next thing I know my body was moving on my own I was sorta half asleep, by that I mean that zombified-ish state of being you're at after spending the whole day doing the same thing. I took me a short while to notice I'm not where I'm supposed to be. I tried to steer myself to my spot only to realize my body was resisting me. I didn't know what was going on. "COME ON, JUST LIVE A LITTLE." I was horrified, I could lose my own body to this thing. I walked quikly to the bathroom, we needed to talk.
"What the hell was that for, I need to get paid."
"I AM TIRED OF SEEING YOU LOOKING THIS PATHETIC, BESIDES I KNOW SHES WHAT YOU WANT, YOU ALWAYS PASS BY TO GET A QUICK GLANCE." "Then shouldn't it be me that approaches her?"
"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, YOU ALMOST DID."
"That's not what I mean."
"IT'S NOT LIKE YOU YOURSELF WAS GOING ANYWAYS."
"And what of it? Nothing good happens when I approach them."
"SO YOU HAD A FEW BAD TRIES, WHATS ONE MORE?"
"A waste of time. I just got this job, I don't need to start nuisances like drama, or be accused for sexual harassment when I already look the part."
"IS THAT WHAT YOU TELL YOURSELF? YOU'RE PATHETIC, HOW MANY OPPORTUNITIES DID YOU MISS OUT ON, DON'T TELL ME I KNOW."
There was no sound after that. Damn, I raised my voice, I hope I'm not fired.

DAY 21: Damn, I'm not sure what to do. It intervened at work and being at home wont separates us so moving isn't an option. I need to think, I'm going out for a drive.

DAY 22: COME ON MAN, GET UP. IT'S NOT ENDING HERE. THIS ROOM, THESE BEEPS, THIS ISN'T YOU, YOU ALWAYS GET UP. YOU DON'T STOP, ONLY HIT SPEEDBUMPS. YOU HERE ISN'T RIGHT SO GET UP.

DAY 23: YOU'RE NOT GETTING UP. WHY AREN'T YOU GETTING UP. THIS IS BULL, WE SHOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE. THIS IS YOUR FAULT WHY COULDN'T YOU GET OVER YOURSELF. THIS IS A NEW LOW EVEN FOR YOU. I SHOULD JUST FINISH YOU OFF HERE, BUT WHAT GOOD WILL THAT DO. JUST SEEING YOU THERE JUST PISSESS ME OFF.

DAY 24: "YOU'RE PROBABLY EXPECTING ME TO HELP YOU UP THEN, SORRY BUT YOU'RE BEYOND MY REACH AND I HAVE NOTHING TO WORK WITH. ALRIGHT I'LL ADMIT IT I RUINED YOUR LIFE, IS THAT WHAT YOU WANTED. I SAID IT, NOW PLEASE GET UP.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH? WHAT ELSE IS THERE? WANT ME TO FIX WHAT I RUINED? I CAN DO THAT, I'LL DO BETTER THIS TIME. HOW BOUT IT? I CAN CHANGE, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GET UP?

DAY 25: "I DON'T KNOW WHY I KEEP VISITING. NO MATTER WHAT I SAY OR WHAT I DO, NOTHING CHANGES. I CAN'T DO ANYTHING HERE WHILE YOU'RE STILL THERE. THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN DO SOMETHING IS YOU, MAYBE YOU HAVE GIVEN UP ALREADY, MAYBE IT'S TIME I SHOULD TOO.

DAY 26: "YOU'RE NOT GETTING UP. THIS IS THE END, I GUESS, NOTHING I'VE DONE AMOUNTED FOR ANYTHING. I'M SORRY FOR PUTTING YOU HERE, I MEAN IT, I WAS JUST TOO DETERMINED FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. ALL I CAN DO IS HOPE THAT YOUR SITUATION IMPROVES IF I LEAVE. SO GOODBYE."

 "bye."

DAY 14: I was pissed. I've dreaded this day since the beginning of the month. The tire incident was the start of bullshit to come. It's the same thing every year, the one thing the people value this time of year and it will always be a luxury I can't enjoy. I didn't know what else to do. I got myself a 24 pack of "coronas" all to myself.

But then the laughter came back. Why did it came back today? I was more angered than before. Am I here to be someone else's amusement. But then it came to me, this happened before. Back when I sought a new phone cable, the one behind a display case. There was also that time I though I hallucinated my own reflection in front pf my tv waving at me. What if it wasn't in my head? Right then I was willing to entertain any idea just to keep me busy. I paced a mirror I had lying around in front of me. I even setup a camera to capture the moment.

Time has passed, and nothing happened. At first I was disappointed, but was then quickly irritated. I couldn't believed that I got excited over something so ridiculous. I have no one to blame but myself. I sat back on to my seat and look to the box of beer next to me, "might as well," I though. I grabbed one, opened it up and then...

"WAIT, DON'T DRINK YET, PUT IT DOWN," I lowered my drink, I couldn't pinpoint the source of the sound, it was as if I was hearing it from all directions at once. I looked at the mirror, my own reflection was smiling back at me. This was depressing, I was seeing and hearing things before a single sip. "SORRY ABOUT THE SILENCE, I JUST WANTED TO HAVE SOME FUN BEFORE FINALLY SPEAKING, ANYWAY HOW'S LIFE?" "crappy." "APPARENTLY, YOU NEVER DRINK, WHY IS THIS YEAR ANY DIFFERENT? "I was bored." "WHY DIDN'T YOU SEEK ME SOONER? I MADE MYSELF APPARENT TO YOU." "I didn't notice them, as far as I knew I was tired, now if you don't mind I have an empty month I'm trying to speed through." Next thing he does is tilt to the side reach his arm out of the mirrors view and pulls out a sandwich. I saw him bring it towards me, seeing the small meal cross through the mirror as if the mirror itself was just a mere hole rather than a wall. "I FOLLOWED YOUR RECIPE SO I KNOW IT'S YOUR FAVORITE." "what do you want? what are you?" "NOTHING AND HARD TO SAY" I couldn't think of anything else to say.

"THE MONTH IS EMPTY BECAUSE ITS THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM, AS SOON AS MARCH STARTS YOU'LL ATTEND THE KISS CONCERT, MIGHT BE THEIR LAST TOUR, AND IT'S THE FINAL MONTH OF THAT MOBILE GAME YOU PLAY RELIGIOUSLY." "All good things must come to an end, as the saying goes." "YEAH NOW YOU CAN RETURN TO GAMING AND PHOTOGRAPHY OR SOMETHING, I EVEN LEFT YOU THAT $100 GIFT CARD, WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THAT BY THE WAY?" "bought me bags of chips." "WELL THAT WAS WASTE." "I disagree, I basically assembled a home theater with parts I collected, chips and soda was for the full experience." "DID THAT MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER?" "I was bored." "SO YOU NEED A BETTER LIFE?" "I'm not exactly living, I'm more or less stuck here biding my time for other things." "THEN ME MET HELP YOU CHANGE IT." "why?" "YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS. I CAN IMPROVE YOUR LIFE" "and what do you want in return?" "NOTHING, SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD DEAL RIGHT? SO WHAT DO YOU SAY? It then grabs a beer and drinks, with the 24 pack only on his side of the mirror. "Can anyone else hear you?"
